Vaporizer 101: Everything you need to know when buying a vaporizer

Vaping, an alternative to smoking. What are the benefits of vaporizers? Which vape should I buy? There are so many questions when it comes to vaping and we are here to give you the answers. First things first, vaping dry herbs is a healthier alternative than smoking. A vaporizer only produces pure vapor and no smoke at all since the herbs are not exposed to any combustion.

Meaning, vapor does not contain any tar residues and way less contaminants compared to smoking. In addition, a vaporizer can extract the flavors and medicinal compounds of dry herbs more effectively (almost 100% compared to 30%) which leads to a stronger effect. Another benefit of a vaporizer is that you can not only vape grounded dry herbs but also extracts such as resins, pastes or crystals. But, more on that topic later. Let's have a look at how the delicious vapor is actually produced first.

Convection vs conduction or desktop vaporizers vs. portable vaporizers

There are two methods to heat up herbs via a vaporizer: convection and conduction. A convection vaporizer heats up the dry herb indirectly through hot air (similar to an oven. A conduction vaporizer directly heats up the oven in which the plant material is packed in (similar to a pot on a stove).

The majority of today's modern portable vaporizers use the conduction method. Conduction allows for a much faster heat build-up and already produces thick vapor upon the first inhalation. This is especially practical for so-called on-demand vaping in everyday life since you don?t have to wait too long for the vaporizer to reach the optimal temperature. Portable vapes are in general also more affordable and easier to use and are thus considered ideal for vaporizer beginners. Just turn it on and you are good to go.

Convection-based desktop vaporizers are on average a little more expensive but also deliver better performance. They might take longer before they are ready for use but in the end, extract more compounds out of dry herbs. That?s why convection vaporizers are also referred to as session vaporizers. The taste is more intense, the compound is more potent which makes home vapes ideal for aromatherapy sessions.

The health benefits of herbal vaping

Aromatherapy has been around since almost the beginning of mankind. Various cultures have vaped herbs to combat diseases and everyday ailments. Inhaling medicinal compounds have proven to be highly effective especially when dealing with respiratory problems or more severe, chronic diseases.

Still, the ritual or habit of vaping dry herbs is still not as common as consuming herbs via a tee. It?s almost a shame since people nowadays have access to a wide range of safe herbs. For example. sage is a real blessing for coughs or sore throats, mint cools down the body and balm helps you relax.

To release the medicinal compounds of dry herbs in the best possible way, you need to use the correct heat settings. Whether you are using a desktop or portable vaporizer, most modern vapes allow for precise temperature settings to ensure a smooth and effective vaping experience.
